
RIDE FOR THE
RED SET FOR FATHER'S DAY WEEKENDFile Story American Red Cross Eagle Pass volunteers and Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado's precinct one staff are putting finishing touches at Maverick County Lake as the inaugural Ride for the Red gets underway Saturday, June 19, 2010. The day begins at 9:00 am with biker registration, which is $20 per rider and $10 for passenger. At 11:00 am there is a bike parade around town, the riders then take off to El Indio and have lunch sponsored by Commissioner Heredia at El Indio Community Center. The ride continues on Highway 2644 West to Carrizo Springs, and then riders come back to Eagle Pass on Highway 277 North and return to Maverick County Lake for a day filled with food and entertainment for the entire family. Proceeds from this event will benefit the local American Red Cross group in their efforts to prepare for and respond to disasters. Live entertainment is on tap beginning at 2:00pm, and scheduled to appear are: Billy's Legend Dancers, KTTT lead dancer Lucio Jimenez, Karma, Fraga's music studio, Metal Soldiers, La Marka and Rag Dolls. Students who participated came from C.C. Winn and EP Highs, EPJr High, Ray Darr Elm and Geo-Force club. The summer program for Paint The Town begins Wednesday, June 16, 2010, from 9am to 12pm. community Mundo Nuevo and
Jando Guedea Parks On Saturday, January 23, 1020, over 41 volunteers from several groups that included Kickapoo Prevention & Intervention Program, staff from Precinct 4, Eagle Pass High, Americorps Texas, Seco Mines Community Center, Eagle Pass Junior High, Robert E. Lee, Liberty, Glass and Graves Elementary schools assisted in tackling gang related graffiti around the Mundo Nuevo and Jando Guedea Parks areas close to downtown. Border Patrol Agent and War on Drugs Program Coordinator Erika Rodriguez informed the volunteers that there is a definite rise in gang related "taggings" and for everyone to keep vigilant of our neighborhoods and call local police to report any vandalism activities because taggers will go to prison. Volunteers are reminded to participate in the upcoming "Downtown Trash-Bash" on Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the IBC Bank downtown location. This community wide event is being organized to beautify the downtown areas for the upcoming Eagle Pass visit of Texas First Lady Anita Perry to commemorate our town's re-certification into the Texas Historical Commission's Main Street Program.
